What is World AIDS Day?
World AIDS Day is observed on December 1 in over 120 countries worldwide.
World AIDS Day and AIDS Awareness Week (starting November 24) aim to raise awareness in the community about HIV/AIDS, including the need for support and understanding for people living with HIV/AIDS, and the need for education and prevention initiatives.

For NSW the key messages for the 2007 AIDS Awareness Campaign are:
- HIV is preventable and treatable but there is no cure yet.
- Together we can help stop the spread of HIV and reduce the impact of AIDS in the community
Prevention is the best strategy so protect yourself and your partners and
- Always use condoms when having sex
- Never share needles
- Get tested regularly for HIV and STIs
- Be informed and talk about HIV/AIDS
